Update advice message

The Software Update Wizard handles advising the user that an update is available.  It uses exactly your own message text, which can be provided in multiple languages.

The Software Update Wizard message boxes can all be fully themed to match your software / company design using simple keyword lines.  This is an example of a customised message box.

It is also possible to download your updates silently.

In addition, although the default behaviour is to alert the user if an update is available and then download it, it is also possible to download the update first and then alert the user to the opportunity to update.

This is the default download dialog.  Note that the following design elements can be customised:

• The icon (top left)
• The graduated background across the top (from/to colours)
• Colour and font of the title text
• Overall background colour
• Overall text colour

Default advice message style

This is the default message box style.  Note that the following design elements can be customised:

• The icon (top left)
• The bitmap down the left hand side (which can also be suppressed)
• The contents and style of the message text window (which is a web browser control and therefore renders any valid html).
• The size of the dialog can be made larger or smaller.
• The graduated background across the top (from/to colours)
• Colour, font and size of the title amd subtitle text
• Justification of the subtitle text (left, centred, right)
• Overall background colour
• Overall text colour

Project Manager Utility

The Software Update Wizard Project Manager lets you test scripts before you release them and automate uploading the script and updated application files to your web server via ftp.

In addition, it gives you instant access to the log file and the ini file which the Software Update Wizard uses to manage updates where your script does not specify an application version number to check in order to determine whether an update is required.

System Tray Messages

You can (optionally) display a progress update message in the system tray.  The syntax which displays the bubble shown in the screenshot is:

Create Scripts in PSPad, Textpad or any text editor

An update script file is a simple text file which you can create in any text editor.

We supply definition and syntax files for PSPad and TextPad, two very popular text editors.

The screenshot shows the definition files used within PSPad.

Another customised message box design

This design also features an optional scrolling link across the bottom of the dialog.  A customised message link scrolls across the bottom of the dialog box.  If the user clicks the link it opens in their default web browser.
